POWER SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION - ABOUT AUTHOR(S)


J.S. DHILLON, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering Department at the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology in Longowal. From 2002 to 2005, he was the department chair. He formerly held the positions of Lecturer (1987–1992) at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, and Assistant Professor (1992–2002) at Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda. Professor Dhillon has supervised 28 Ph.D. and 38 M.Tech. students, written three books, and presented and published 214 research papers in conferences and journals both national and international. His areas of interest include fuzzy set theory, neural networks, hydrothermal scheduling, multi-objective thermal dispatch, microprocessor applications, and soft computing applications in power systems.


D.P. KOTHARI, Ph.D., former Vice Chancellor, VIT University, Vellore. Earlier, he has been Professor, Centre for Energy Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has also served as Director-in-Charge, IIT Delhi (2005), Deputy Director (Administration), IIT Delhi (2003–2006), Principal, National Institute of Technology Nagpur (1997–1998) and Head, Centre for Energy Studies, IIT Delhi (1995–1997).

Dr. Kothari's fields of specialization include optimal hydro-thermal scheduling, unit commitment, maintenance scheduling, energy conservation, and power quality and energy systems planning and modelling. A recipient of several national awards, Dr. Kothari has contributed extensively to these areas, guided 57 Ph.D. and 68 M.Tech. scholars, authored 85 books on Power Systems and allied areas, and published/presented 825 research papers in various national and international journals/conferences.
