Grading System to be Upgraded in Universities Soon

The centre has told the Supreme Court that within three month’s time it is planning to upgrade the grading system of the Universities and the process of implementing the same would be done within the same duration.
Government is presently going to deliberations with various stakeholders regarding the up gradation in the system, which includes bodies like University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The criteria for the grading of the universities would be complete, once these bodies assent on a single draft.
On the other hand, there are various private deemed universities who are opposing the stand taken by the Centre and are claiming that there is no such provision under the executive action which allows the government to lay down the grading criteria. The bench after hearing the claims made by both the parties had asked the government to respond to the objections made by the deemed universities within three weeks’ time.
UGC has told the bench that as per the order given by the Court to UGC, they have send teams to physically verify the eight universities, and four of them were found deficient. But the UGC has given seven of the eight universities one more years’ time to make their infrastructure fit according to the standards of the UGC.
According to Courts order the universities Maharishi Markandeshwar University in Ambala, Manav Rachana International University in Faridabad, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education in Huru (Rajasthan), Academy of Maritime Education and Training in Chennai, Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research in Chennai, Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology in Thanjavur, Vinayak Mission’s Research Foundation in Salem (Tamil Nadu) and Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya in Hardiwar are said to be inspected by the UGC through a team.
Currently 41 deemed universities are under the scrutiny for failing in fulfilling the criteria’s miserably. Physical verification of these eight universities was made possible once the universities agreed to conduct the same.
