
SOMDEB MITRA is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology as well as Clinical Psychology Centre at University of Calcutta. He is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with more than a decade of experience in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
He completed M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from University of Calcutta in 2010, and his Ph.D. involved psychodynamic therapy of borderline personality disorder patients. He believes that, in addition to his M.Phil. course, his experience of personal psychoanalysis as well as working under the supervision of a psychoanalyst during Ph.D. has enriched his understanding in this field. The experience of clinical practice as well as clinical teaching and supervision at Postgraduate and M.Phil. levels help him stay up to date with the recent trends as well as the need of the students. Having guided several students for their research at Postgraduation in Psychology and M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology, he has developed a keen interest regarding the empirical bases of clinical practice as well as the importance of ethical practices.
The author has presented lectures in international and national conferences and conducted workshops in the field of clinical psychology and psychotherapy in India and abroad. He has several publications in the field of psychopathology and psychotherapy in reputed national and international journals. He believes his recent interest in the field of spirituality while staying within the evidence based scientific practices, will further augment his understanding of individuals with mental health concerns.
